The death toll from two Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon rose to 10, marking the deadliest day in over four months of cross-border exchanges. Hezbollah pledged retaliation for the strikes in Nabatiyeh and a southern village, following the killing of an Israeli soldier by Lebanese projectiles. Seven members of a family, including a child, died when part of a building collapsed in Nabatiyeh. Initially, four deaths were reported, but a missing boy was found alive under the rubble. In Souaneh village, a woman and her two children were killed, bringing the civilian toll to six women and three children. Additionally, three Hezbollah fighters died on Wednesday.
Earlier that day, fire from Lebanon hit Safed in northern Israel, killing a female soldier and injuring eight. These fatalities marked a significant escalation in the daily cross-border exchanges since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza on Oct. 7. The conflict began with a surprise attack by Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah, in southern Israel. As a protest against the airstrikes, government institutions, schools, and Lebanese University closed on Thursday.
