Despite a strong performance from De’Andre Hunter, who scored 21 points for the Hawks, and a double-double from Jalen Johnson with 19 points and 12 rebounds, the Hawks were unable to match the Hornets’ dominance. Trae Young’s output was limited to 12 points and 12 rebounds after he was fined $35,000 by the NBA earlier in the day for a gesture directed at an official.
From the beginning, the Hornets asserted control over the game, establishing a 61-55 halftime lead fueled by Brandon Miller’s 18 points and sharp shooting from beyond the arc. Charlotte further extended their lead to 16 points by the end of the third quarter, stifling the Hawks’ offense and holding them to just 25 points in the period. The game concluded on a high note for the Hornets, who secured the victory before heading into the All-Star break.
