Apple has officially unveiled the stable release of iOS 17.4 for iPhone users worldwide, introducing various OS enhancements, including security upgrades and a collection of entertaining new emojis.
iOS 17.4 introduces compliance with the Digital Markets Act in the European Union, allowing users the option to choose non-Apple Pay payment services. Additionally, the update includes numerous security fixes and patches.
iOS 17.4 Update for EU Countries:
The latest iOS update brings big changes to iPhones in Europe.
- Users in EU countries can download an alternative app store, where they can install apps from outside the Apple App Store.
- People in EU countries will receive updated default app controls and additional options for making in-app payments.
- People in EU countries now have the choice to pick a new default web browser option.

New Emojis and Automatic Podcast Transcription:
With iOS 17.4, iPhone users will find a bunch of cool new emojis like mushrooms, phoenixes, limes, broken chains, and shaking heads in their Emoji Keyboard. Plus, there’s a neat feature that provides automatic podcast transcriptions in English, Spanish, French, and German.
Enhanced Features Include Music Recognition, Siri Message Announcements, and Stolen Device Protection:
In the latest update, users can now easily add identified songs to their Apple Music playlists and libraries using Music Recognition, even for Apple Music Classical. Siri is also getting an update to announce received messages in any supported language, which is pretty handy. Plus, Stolen Device Protection has been improved for better security options, and you can now find detailed battery health information like cycle count, manufacture date, and first use for certain iPhone models in the settings.
Apple Enhances Call Identification and Messages for Business:
Apple has made some improvements to Call Identification, so now when you receive calls, you’ll see verified business names, logos, and department names where possible. Also, there’s an update to Messages for Business to keep you informed about order status, flight updates, fraud alerts, and trustworthy transaction information.
Apple Cash Virtual Card Expands Payment Options; Bug Fixes Addressed:
Now, with the Apple Cash virtual card, you can make payments at stores that don’t support Apple Pay yet, using Wallet or Safari AutoFill. Plus, there are some bug fixes, like fixing problems with blank contact pictures in Find My and stopping phone number switches for Dual SIM users that were visible to message groups.

How to update:
Before downloading the update, make sure you’re connected to a strong Wi-Fi network. Also, check that your phone has enough battery before starting the installation process.
- On supported iPhones, go to the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap the General section.
- Head over to the software update page where you’ll find a new card for the iOS 17.4 update. You can either install it right away or schedule it for later today by tapping on one of the buttons below.
