Paris city hall is taking legal action after PSG fans targeted Mayor Anne Hidalgo with sexist insults and homophobic chants during a French league match. Hidalgo will lodge a complaint for public insults, and the matter will be referred to the French league’s disciplinary committee. PSG fans displayed banners hostile to Hidalgo during PSG’s win against Lille at Parc des Princes. Chants of “Hidalgo resign!” were heard.

PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi confirmed plans for the club to leave its home stadium after Paris city officials decided it wasn’t for sale. PSG wanted to stay and own the stadium but will have to look elsewhere. PSG began playing at Parc des Princes in 1972 and benefits from a long-term lease.In January, PSG said it had invested over 85 million euros in stadium maintenance costs. The club is committed to investing a further 500 million euros in renovations. The Parc des Princes will not be sold as confirmed by the Paris city council vote.Homophobic chants at French league matches have been tolerated for a long time. Paris city hall remains mobilized against all forms of discrimination. Both sets of fans reportedly chanted anti-gay songs during the game against Lille. The stadium announcer asked them to stop.
