Xiaomi Pad 6s pro

In the ever-evolving landscape of tablets, Xiaomi’s Pad 6s Pro emerges as a compelling contender, offering a blend of performance, versatility, and innovative features. In this comprehensive review, we delve into every aspect of the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro, from its design and interconnectivity to its display quality, audio prowess, camera capabilities, and gaming performance.

Expected Features of Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro

Design:

The Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro is sizeable, weighing almost 600g with a 12.4 inch display. Its aluminum alloy unibody is sturdy but lacks a unique design, resembling another iPad. The color option is limited to graphite gray, which may show smudges but is generally manageable. The front display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

Display & audio:

The Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro boasts a 12.4-inch IPS display with a 3×2 aspect ratio, ideal for side-by-side multitasking, though it may not be optimal for watching movies due to some noticeable letterboxing. Nonetheless, the cinematic experience remains crisp thanks to its 3K resolution of 3048 by 2032 pixels, offering Dolby Vision and HDR10 streaming support with vibrant colors and respectable contrast. The panel reaches nearly 1000 nits in high brightness mode, making it suitable for outdoor use even on sunny days. It adjusts well for eye comfort and brightness in various lighting conditions.

Regarding refresh rate, it ranges from 30 Hz to 144 Hz, beneficial for gaming.

The audio output is impressive, with six speakers supporting Dolby Atmos and high-resolution audio. Despite the absence of a headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.3 streaming works well.

Stylus & keyboard:

The Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro supports various accessories, including the Focus Pen stylus. When placed on top of the tablet, they pair up seamlessly thanks to a strong magnetic connection. The stylus offers zero latency, providing instant results when touching the screen. Additionally, the tablet’s keyboard cover transforms it into a makeshift laptop. With a magnetic connection, the tablet attaches securely to the cover, which offers decent physical feedback and proper backlighting. However, the touchpad is small and not very responsive, so it’s better to interact directly with the screen.

Software & Features:

On the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro, you’ll find a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, albeit tiny, it functions reliably. Facial unlock is also available, providing additional security. The tablet runs Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS, layered on top of Android 14, offering a user-friendly interface similar to Pixel tablets. It’s equipped with useful features like Google Discover feed and customizable notification and control centers.

While Xiaomi hasn’t specified the duration of OS and security updates, a minimum of 3 years can be expected for this pro-level tablet and Storage options range from 256GB to 512GB.

Performance & gaming:

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro has been flawless during my week of testing. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and backed by 8GB of RAM, providing smooth multitasking and gaming experiences. While the chipset may be over a year old, it still handles tasks effortlessly. Gaming on popular titles like “Gench” and “Impact” is enjoyable, although I recommend using a Bluetooth controller for better control, as playing action games on a large tablet can feel a bit cumbersome.

For creators, the tablet offers a great platform for editing photos and videos. The dedicated Hyper OS game mode, Game Turbo, allows you to boost performance when needed. Additionally, features like clearing memory, enabling do not disturb mode, and recording gameplay are available.

Multi-tasking:

One of the advantages of using a large device like a tablet is the ability to multitask easily. On the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro, you can tap the three dots at the top to split the screen and run two apps simultaneously. This feature comes in handy for tasks like replying to emails while browsing the web or working on documents. While you can resize the apps by sliding the divider, not all apps may work well in split-screen mode.

Unfortunately, you can’t split the screen vertically, which would be more convenient for activities like watching a movie while multitasking. Instead, you can open videos as floating windows. HyperOS also offers a “workstation mode” allowing you to open up to four floating windows at once by tapping the icons at the bottom. If you attempt to open more than four, older ones will be replaced.

Connectivity:

As for connectivity, the tablet supports WiFi 7, ensuring seamless streaming and online gaming experiences. While there seems to be space for a SIM card slot or memory card.

Cameras:

Rear camera:

The Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro features a 50-megapixel Samsung GN1 camera sensor on the rear, along with a basic depth sensor. While its utility may not be immediately apparent, it could be used for tasks like document scanning.

Front camera:

However, the 32-megapixel front-facing Omnivision camera is more practical for video chats, Skype, Zoom, or vlogging. When in use, a small LED indicator lights up to signal the camera’s activation, which is quite convenient.

Additionally, the tablet is equipped with four built-in microphones that effectively capture your voice, ensuring clear communication during video calls, even if you’re not directly in front of the screen.

Interconnectivity:

One of the standout features of HyperOS is its interconnectivity, which may sound complex but is quite simple to use. To connect your Xiaomi 14 series smartphone to the Pad 6s Pro, just navigate to settings, ensure Xiaomi interconnectivity is enabled on both devices, and pair them via Bluetooth. Once paired, you’ll see a phone icon on the tablet’s dock, allowing you to access your smartphone’s desktop directly. While it’s convenient, it would be even better if you could resize and move the window around.

Additionally, you can easily share photos and files between the two devices. Interestingly, the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro can even function as a secondary screen for Xiaomi’s electric car.

Battery Life:

With a 10,000mAh battery and 120W fast charging support, the tablet offers exceptional battery life, lasting up to 15 hours of video streaming on a single charge. Fast charging replenishes the battery quickly, providing a full day of use in less than half an hour.

Conclusion:

The Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro impresses with its performance, battery life, and accessories. However, its cinematic display may not be suited for everyone, especially those primarily interested in multimedia consumption. Overall, it’s a solid choice for productivity and multitasking.
