The Biden administration revealed a $5.8 billion allocation for water infrastructure projects nationwide, funded by a key legislative success. This injection brings the total funding for state water infrastructure projects to $22 billion. The financing stems from the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden in his first year in office. Vice President Kamala Harris and EPA Administrator Michael Regan will formally introduce the plans at an event in Pittsburgh. The infrastructure law earmarks over $50 billion for upgrading America’s water infrastructure, touted as the largest investment in clean water in U.S. history.
Tuesday’s announcement includes $3.2 billion for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, targeting upgrades to water treatment plants, distribution systems, and lead pipe replacement. Additionally, $1 billion is allocated for seven major rural water projects, with another $1 billion supporting Great Lakes drinking water initiatives.
